Sliding Scale

Deciding to see a psychotherapist is the first step to getting relief but treatment can be expensive which is additionally challenging if you are already in an anxious mental state. Inability to afford treatment should not be a barrier to actually receiving treatment.

To provide affordable therapy and enable more clients to get the mental health treatment and therapy they need, Sequoia Therapy offers a sliding scale fee structure to assure more people have access to treatment. With sliding scale, the amount that a client is responsible for paying is determined based on their income. Sliding scale therapy pricing is a type of fee structure where people with fewer resources are responsible for a lower fee. The amount your fee moves incrementally based on what percentage rate their income falls. As you move into greater economic security, reaching the higher end of the income spectrum, by paying full fee, it helps offset the potential financial burden to others.

“OUT OF POCKET” & OUT-OF-NETWORK REIMBURSEMENT

Another option is to pay out of pocket and seek reimbursement from your insurance company. Paying “out of pocket” means covering the entire cost of therapy sessions – however, checking with your health insurance to see if they offer out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy. When you call your insurance company, ask if they offer full or partial reimbursement for seeing an out-of-network provider for psychotherapy code 90837 or code 90834. Finding affordable therapy need not be a daunting task. Contact us to learn about our rates and services.

Insurance

Sequoia is an out-of-network provider which means that you pay for counseling and if you wish to seek reimbursement from your insurance carrier, it is up to you. At the end of each session, we can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Another alternative is to pay for counseling with a health savings account (HSA), or flexible spending account (FSA). Most of our clients get partial or full reimbursement but we suggest you always check with your insurance carrier.

Currently, we do not take insurance because the reimbursement process for clinics necessitates a significant amount of time applying and negotiating to get reimbursed for the time already spent doing counseling. We are looking into partnering with a claims specialist so that in the future Sequoia may bill directly to insurance. However, some of our clients prefer their mental health services to be completely private and do not want therapy to be part of their medical and/or insurance records.
