Group Therapy

Parent, Adolescent & Young Adults Group

Presently we are recruiting members for three different teletherapy groups at Sequoia: A Parent’s Group, the Adolescent Group (12-15 y/o), and Young Adults/College Group (18-24 y/o). Many of us struggle with being authentic and speaking up for ourselves at home, at school and in our careers. Likewise some people over communicate, or react so strongly that the tone used compromises the message. At Sequoia we see group therapy as an art. We use a hybrid model that cultivates interpersonal engagement and mutual support: There will be opportunity to address themes in relation to one another and address their lives outside of the group. Group is a social microcosm and is not as daunting as one may fear because of a clear beginning and end. Within this frame members gradually recognize similarities with their peers and a critical layer of isolation dissolves. Try our group therapy to help you relate better with others, and yourself, in a more adaptive, healthier manner.

There is a misconception that group members take turns receiving individual attention from the therapist while others sit back or tune out. Our approach is entirely different. A Sequoia clinician facilitates group cohesion as you turn increasingly to one another for support, give feedback and navigate your connections. The process yields greater comfort as you increasingly aid one another in developing your individual and group voice, rather than rely on a clinician.

Upon completion of group therapy, you will be increasingly aware of your own feelings and needs for expressing them, as well as have the tools for speaking up and having a better sense of how to flexibly maintain boundaries that are responsive to others without compromising your values.
